In the heart of Punta Umbría's Los Enebrales (Juniper Trees) Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty lies this magnificent beach, reached via five
wooden board walks laid out in such a way that they lead the visitor through dunes and pine woods which are home to species endemic to the
Andalucian Atlantic coast that are in danger of extinction, such as the coastal juniper tree or the common chameleon. This walk is a feast for
the senses, but it's very important to keep to the path in order to protect its natural habitat.
This beach is chosen by those who prefer peace and quiet to services, and by lovers of naturism. It's a good idea to pack food and drink to
take with you. Curiously enough, it was here that a fisherman, during WWII, found the "man who never was" -a corpse which had been taken and
dressed as a major in the Royal Marines; a briefcase of specially-concocted documents, intended to mislead German High Command, had been attached
to his body; and then the corpse had been placed in the sea to be washed up on the shore and found by someone. "Operation Mincemeat", as it was
called, was successful and enabled the allies to take Italy back.
