On the other side of the sand spit on which Punta Umbría sits is La Ría (The Estuary) beach. Its usual patrons are families with children and
groups of youngsters. It's a calm beach, with no waves and with a feature which delights children but which calls for safety precautions: one
gets out of one's depth much closer to the water's edge than on other beaches; it gives one the sensation of being in a swimming pool (one can
even dive in from the water's edge), and one doesn't have to wade so far out to be able to swim. Here, due to its closeness to the Yachting Club,
water sports are often practised. We recommend that you go when the tide is in or coming in.
