Opening Hours

Banks: 8.30-14.00h. Some open on Saturday mornings from 08:30 to 13:00 and some saving banks (cajas) also open during the late afternoon/early evening on Thursdays.
Chemists: 10.00-13.30h/17.00-20.30h. Some are open 24 hours and there are duty chemists open at all times on a rota system (current details are posted in every chemist´s window).
Shops in general: 10.00-13.30h/17.00-20.30h, Monday to Saturday.
Shopping centres:10.00-21.00/22.00h
On Sundays shops are usually closed, except for a few Sundays -e.g. the first in the month- when a few shops open.
Post Offices: de 8.30 a 20.30h, Monday to Friday.
Cinemas: open daily between 16:00 and 17:00. The last showing is usually at around 22:00, although on weekends there are later sessions. Some cinemas have Sunday matinées at around 12:00.
Mealtimes: people usually breakfast from 07:30 to 10:00, although tpically they have something mid-morning. Lunch is served roughly from 14:00 to 15:30 and dinner between 21:00 and 23:00, although there are many places where these times stretch out further.

Good to know

Tipping: although it´s not compulsory (service is usually included in the price) it´s customary to leave a few coins as a tip (there´s no minimum percentage); but you´re under no pressure to do so. The normal tip is between 4 and 10%, depending of how satisfied you were with the service or how generous you´re feeling.

Electricity: The voltage is 220 volts and 50 hertz of alternating current (AC). If you need an adaptor you can buy one in a DIY shop (Ferretería), although some hotels have a supply of them.

Water: the tap water is good quality drinking water. Likewise the water of a few fountains, which carry the sign "(Agua) potable" -drinking water.

Crime: Huelva is a safe destination with a very low crime rate. Take the usual precautions such as not leaving things valuables in your car. View Emergency Services for further informaton.

Geographical Situation: Huelva is located at the very south-west tip of Spain.
Area: 10,128 square kilometres
Population: 497.671 (2007)
Capital: Huelva (150.000 inhabitants)
Foreigners: 23.459 (2006)
Population density: 46,5 inhabitants/km2, well below the average for Andalucía (85 inhabitants/km2). It´s the least densely populated part of the Autonomous Community.
Population distribution: A third of the population is concentrated in the Coastal area.
Municipalities: 79, with a total of 205 centres of population.
Administrative divisions: According to the Ministry of Agriculture´s 1971 classification, Huelva is divided into the following regions: Coast, Condado (Countryside and Coast), Andévalo (Eastern and Western) and Sierra. According to the Regional MInistry of Tourism, Trade and Sports of the Autonomous Government of Andalucía (2003) the divisions are: Andévalo, Condado, Western Coast, Metropolitan Area of Huelva, Cuenca Minera and Sierra.
Judicial districts: Six (Aracena, Ayamonte, Huelva, Moguer, La Palma del Condado and Valverde del Camino).
Lenght of coastline: 122 kilometres.
Highest/lowest area: Cerro de los Bonales (1.059 metres) / El Portil Lagoon (0 metres).
Religion: despite the fact that, under the Constitution, Spain is a lay State, most of its population is Catholic; although Muslims, Protestants, Jews and Hindus bring religious diversity.
