visithuelva.com Travel Code

It’s all about what you want from your holidays; what is important to you as a person. Tourism is one of the few industries that can actually improve the world we live in.

With the right attitude it’s one of those rare win-win situations, you can get so much out of it while at the same time giving so much back to the destination visited.

To follow this Travel code is of course a personal choice. These are merely our recommendations to make your stay here as rich and fulfilling as possible.

Travel Tips and Tools

The Huelva Region is an authentic Spanish travel destination. It is not spoilt or adulterated by the impact of tourism as has happened with other destinations. The idea would be to keep it that way.

To do so we recommend the following

Read up before you go. We have written our travel guides to help you do so. The more you know, the richer your experience will be.
Take the people as you find them. People in Huelva are quite passionate and spontaneous, full of colour. The local festivals are a great chance to appreciate their joy for life and living. They are however quite noisy but that’s the price you pay for passion.
Join in if you can. You’ll find that if you make an effort to join in with local customs it will be appreciated. In general any interest shown will indeed be noticed.
Try not to stand out too much even though you will anyway. Taking pictures is great as a way to have something to remember, but having a real good look and appreciating your surroundings is sometimes a more memorable experience.
Don’t expect people to speak English. In key services of course people do in fact speak English but most people don’t. Try to learn a few words of Spanish before you go, it will show you’re making an effort (Have a look at our Huelva Lingo In Your Pocket).
Out and About – Huelva is a safe destination with a very low crime rate. Do get out and about as there is so much to see and do especially the Sierra, typical villages, nature parks and reserves…(not just the 120km of unspoilt beaches).
Local products – if you buy local products and produce you support the local economy. This is a fact. Not only are there great local products and produce to buy at a reasonable price but you can feel good about playing your part in economic development based on the local way of life.
Public Transport – This is a great way to get an insider’s view of the area and meet people (as well as getting to your destination) and at the same time reduce your environmental impact. Keep in mind though that many of the villages are isolated (this is part of their charm) so don’t expect a regular service!
Environmental considerations – Huelva is particularly sensitive to environmental changes. One third of the territory made up of nature reserves with various important eco systems while also being the home for a whole list of endangered species, form the Iberian lynx to the common chameleon.

In general it’s enough to remember that you are at the same time a guest in Huelva while being an ambassador for your own country. We all share the same objective: that you enjoy your holiday with us.
